Oats provide concentrated high energy, high phosphorous food for horses. Where phosphorus levels are low in grass or hay horses are eating then the addition of oats to our Bigboyz horse treats will enable phosphorous levels to be raised in the daily diet
Chaffs are considered as a high fibre feed which is incredibly important for a horse's digestive system and immune function. As horses are predominantly fibre digesters or hindgut fermenters, fibre is not just a 'filler', it is vital for their energy levels.
It provides a quality protein whose amino acid profile is great for skeletal muscle development; it contains those components that support muscle recovery and regeneration after exercise, whilst short chains of amino acids – bioactive peptides – support the blood system and help maintain blood pressure.
Feeding bananas to horses can offer benefits due to them containing: Potassium – As well as helping muscles and nerves to work, potassium will also help to keep your horse's heart healthy. Vitamin B6 – This helps your horse's body turn carbohydrates and fats into energy.
Cranberries contain dietary fibre, manganese and vitamin K, and are rich in vitamin C and tannins, which help to keep bacteria like E. coli — the most common cause of urinary tract infections — from adhering to the walls of our horses' urinary tracts.
Sugar is actually vital for horses as an energy source and the central nervous system (including the brain) specifically requires glucose for energy. Other benefits of the addition of molasses to chaffs and mixes are the natural nutrients contained within, such as potassium, iron, calcium, salt and B vitamins.
Traditionally it was used to help increase the weight of horses and cattle, it can also help increase milk production. It can help with digestive support, skin & coat condition as well as stimulating the appetite.
Peppermint and Spearmint have an antispasmodic effect on the digestive system, mint may help to expel gas for horses prone to colic and also serves as a soothing appetite stimulant.
